What did you think of the Cosmos Construction Video / photos ? The video comes from the Cosmos website ( Page 3 ) ( Dec 7th 1986 ) . Audio sound track = Enya - Sail Away ( and Popeye the Sailor Man ) . Manufactured by Lloyd's Ships Brisbane 1986 . Cosmos is still considered one of Australia's most luxurious and recognizable private vessels . I will never forget the excitement of launch day , with more than 50 family and friends attending the traditional Champaign Christening . After waiting more than 2 & 1/2 years for Cosmos to be built , I remember thinking how I could not believe the big day had really come . So exciting ....... People still worked up until the last minute , as the ship was gently lowered down into the Brisbane River. Lloyd's Ship employees were permitted to drop tools and watch the spectacle of any new vessel being Launched.
Finally after years of waiting , Cosmos touches the water for the first time . A proud moment for 150 workers.
Many people enjoyed the thrill of staying onboard as the 120 tonne ship floated out to the dock area . No engine power at this time , so the workers had to pull very hard on ropes to bring the ship around Having featured in movies and lifestyle shows , it was the first boat of its size to have a fully operational private Helipad . Cosmos set the standards for all mega yachts to come .The only way to get a full shot of the vessel inside the factory was to take 3 photos and stitch them together . An incredible amount of grinding was required to smooth the raw metal down in preparation for the thick filler . In some cases the filler would need to be trailed on up to an inch thick .
